Day 1: Umoja
Celebrate Day 1 of Kwanzaa and the principle of Umoja or Unity with a welcome from the President of the St. Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a procession, and an explanation of the traditional symbols of the Kwanzaa table.
Day 2: Kujichagulia
On Day 2 of Kwanzaa focus on the principle of Kujichagulia or Self-Determination through a celebration of the life and legacy of Cicely Tyson.
Day 3: Ujima
Honor the legacy of revered ancestors and living elders and pour libation on Day 3 of Kwanzaa focused on the principle of Ujima or Collective Work and Responsibility.
Day 4: Ujamaa
Focus on the principle of Ujamaa or Cooperative Economics on Day 4 of Kwanzaa by celebrating African American entrepreneurs and an elaborate hairstyle inspired by a mask in the Museum’s African collection.
Day 5: Nia
Experience the principle of Nia or Purpose on Day 5 of Kwanzaa through an original story, Soul of the Sunflowers.
Day 6: Kuumba
On Day 6 of Kwanzaa, listen as Kuumba or Creativity is embodied in an original spoken word piece, That BLacK WomaN.
Day 7: Imani
Enjoy the final day of Kwanzaa, Day 7, and the principle of Imani or Faith with a choral presentation of “Celebrate Kwanzaa.”
