NOTES
This large-scale abstraction by Thomas Scheibitz features interlocking puzzle-like forms painted in a refined palette of blues, grays, and off-whites, with hints of pink and yellow. Painted with varied passages of gestures and marks, the tightly constructed composition is a hallmark of Scheibitz’s paintings. The artist usually begins by drawing directly on the canvas, a process preceded by preparatory sketches. Such sketches stem from a myriad of sources, such as old master paintings, contemporary cartoons, and graphic design.
